Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after a traumatic event. It is the body’s and mind’s way of responding to a deeply distressing experience.
People with PTSD may experience re-experiencing of the traumatic event, such as flashbacks or nightmares. They may also have trouble concentrating, become easily irritated, or feel emotionally detached. They may also experience a reduced interest in activities they used to enjoy, a diminished sense of hope for the future, and a feeling of emotional instability.
PTSD is therefore a result of trauma, but it is not trauma itself. It is a mental health condition that can develop after a traumatic event and can be treated with professional help, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or medication. It is important to seek professional help if you think you have PTSD or if you are experiencing symptoms that persist for a long time after a traumatic event.
At BrainArts, we have extensive experience with healing of clients who are traumatized. We use EMDR and SSP to help them. Feel free to contact us if you need our help.
