Welcome to our blogs on all things health.

There are several ways in which a diagnosis can be made in mental health care. The process usually begins with an intake interview with a psychologist or another mental health professional. During this interview, the professional will ask questions about the person’s history, their current symptoms, and how these issues affect their daily life.

Based on the intake interview, the professional may decide to conduct additional evaluations, such as a psychological evaluation or a medical examination. Sometimes it may also be necessary to refer the person to a specialist, such as a psychiatrist or another medical professional.

The diagnosis is often made based on the criteria in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). This is a manual used by mental health professionals to diagnose mental health conditions. The DSM-5 contains the criteria for hundreds of different mental health conditions, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders.

It is important to emphasize that the diagnostic process in mental health care is an ongoing one and that the diagnosis may change as more information becomes available. It is also important to remember that mental health problems often have multiple causes and frequently co-occur with other health problems.

We also make diagnoses, but we never lose sight of the human aspect. With us, you are a person, and you’ll be treated as such.
