Choosing a good psychologist is an important step if you're seeking help for emotional, mental, or behavioral problems. Here are some tips to consider when looking for a psychologist:

  1. Look for someone who is professionally qualified and registered. For example, someone with a BIG registration.
  2. Look for someone with experience treating the issues you're seeking help for. Some psychologists have specialized expertise in certain areas, such as anxiety, depression, or relationship problems.
  3. Look for someone you feel at ease with. It's important that you feel comfortable with the psychologist so that you can be open and honest about your feelings and thoughts.
  4. Look for someone with whom you can build a good working relationship. The treatment will be most effective if you have a relationship of trust with the psychologist.
  5. Look for someone you can communicate with easily. It's important that you can express yourself clearly and that the psychologist can understand you well.
  6. Look for someone with whom you share a common goal. It's important that you and the psychologist have the same goal in mind and work together to achieve it.
  7. Look for someone who’s a good fit for you. For example, some people feel more comfortable with a male or female psychologist. Also consider whether the psychologist has experience with your cultural background, for example.

If you’re unsure about which psychologist is right for you, ask your primary care physician, a trusted person, or another mental health professional for advice. They may be able to help you find someone who meets all your needs. We also believe it’s important that we’re a good fit for you, which is why you can meet with us before starting treatment.
